Message from the Chief:

The Big Bend Police Department’s history reaches back over 80 years to 1928, with the naming of Village Constable Roy Ellerson, and C.W. Rose and J.P. Saunders as the two Justices of the Peace.  In those days, the village encompassed just over a half-mile with a population of 271 residents.  Fast-forward to 2010, with the village stretching out to about three square miles and a population of 1,321.  The Police Department now employs three full-time officers, including the Chief, a Lieutenant, and a Sergeant.  Additionally, there are two part-time Detectives, and nine part-time Patrol Officers.

Today we are faced with many more challenges, and a larger (and still expanding) area to address the needs of the public.  With the advantage of having village residents who are dedicated to working with us to keep Big Bend safe and strong, there is nothing that we can’t accomplish.  Our goal is simple:  to provide quality, professional police service to our community.

On behalf of the men and women of the Big Bend Police Department, I would like to welcome you to our section of the web site.

Sincerely,

Michael J. Hartert

Chief of Police
